Our Mission:The members of the Friends of the Zambia Project (FOZP) believe that basic education is a right, not a privilege, for all children. Our mission is to make an education possible for Zambia’s most vulnerable children by providing financial support to the Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) which provide a basic education to children, primarily girls and orphans, who would not otherwise have an opportunity to go to school. Our Story:Since 2001 a student organization at St. Norbert College, The Zambia Project founded by Linda Clay, has raised money for the Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS). (Link to snc.edu/zambia) The students have received substantial support from friends, relatives, alumni and, especially, from the parishioners of St. Norbert College Parish.. In 2008 SNC alumni and parish members Judy and Jerry Turba travelled to Zambia with Linda and Corday Goddard (past and present staff advisors to the Zambia Project) and five St. Norbert students. Upon their return from Zambia, the Turbas initiated the Friends of Zambia Project as an organized forum through which community and parish members (non-SNC students) can provide assistance to ZOCS. Our Personal Connection to Zambian Children:St. Norbert College students and Friends of Zambia Project members have traveled to Zambia to visit the children and teachers of ZOCS. They have seen first-hand the powerful impact of Zambia Project donations, which have been used to purchase:
Those who have traveled to Zambia have returned to tell their stories about the courage and determination of the children of ZOCS who want desperately to continue to go to school. Individual members may or may not wish to travel to Zambia, but all FOZPers have one thing in common: they are dedicated to providing hope through education for Zambia's children. |
